Occupational Therapy

Paediatrics

Our Occupational Therapists work with children who are experiencing difficulties in completing activities required for everyday living which may also involve the elements of sensory processing, fine and gross motor development, attention, memory, concentration and visual perception.

Our Occupational Therapy team attend regular professional development to ensure that their knowledge and skill base are in line with current research into best practice intervention.

We specialise in…

  • Therapy aims to impact the development of how the body responds to the sensory messages it receives and how to produce meaningful responses.

  • OTs have a broad toolkit that can help understand an appropriate emotional response to a variety of stimuli. OTs can help apply these tools to equip the family and child better to develop a positive future response.

  • A lot of therapy is done in a play environment. Most children love going to the OT despite how hard they are working. Children interact and learn through play. This is recognised as an effective way of improving the child's ability to learn and grow.

  • What is normal, and should a parent be worried? OTs are excellent at understanding developmental milestones. They collaborate with paediatricians to identify early if there is a developmental issue. Recognising this early may lead to earlier intervention and prevention of future disadvantages.

  • School can be a daunting time, especially for children who uniquely see the world. The OTs can create a program to improve the child's ability to enter a new environment. They will play a key role in communicating the needs to parents, teachers and relevant community members.
